MISSION
STATEMENT
The Giles County Public Library's Mission
is to provide the best in library services to the citizens
of Giles County. To accomplish this goal the library
provides current, high demand, high interest materials in a
variety of formats to help community residents obtain
information meeting their personal, educational and
professional needs. The library also serves as an
educational and cultural center for the independent learning
of all residents of the Giles County community. The
library offers both in-library and outreach programming on a
monthly basis to the children, adults and senior citizens of
Giles County. These include outreach monthly story
telling puppet shows in the Giles County public schools, the
county and city HeadStarts, and local independent
pre-schools; in-library story telling, dance-a-story, and
puppet shows; in-classroom book talks for teens as well as
library special events focusing on teen oriented fiction;
monthly Tale Telling/oral history evenings for adults in
towns throughout the county; an adult weekly library book
club; special "meet the author" literary evenings at the
library; a monthly senior citizen narrative theater
performance designed around periods of history and
literature of particular relevance to a senior citizen
audience in all Giles County nursing homes, retirement
residences and senior centers; a seasonal summer reading
program for children and teens; and the library's
participation in national grant funded programs such as The
National Endowment for the Arts, The Big Read. |
